The Methodist Health Training Institute is located at Afosu in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region, Ghana which was formerly known as Nursing and Midwifery Training College-Afosu. After four years of training five hundred and six-three (563) enrolled nurses and Thirty-five (35) midwives, the college obtained accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC) [formerly National Accreditation Board] in 2018 to run three-year diploma programmes in Registered General Nursing and Registered Midwifery with University Affiliation from University for Development Studies, Tamale – Ghana, but the Institution is now affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
In 2019, The Methodist Church Ghana acquired the facility under the new name METHODIST HEALTH TRAININNG INSTITUTE .MHTI is a Christian Health Association of Ghana(CHAG) memeber facility and is counted as one of the public health training under the ministry of health Ghana.
The institute is running the following programmes;
(a) Diploma in Registered Midwifery (RM) - 3 years
(b) Diploma in Registered General Nursing (RGN) - 3 years
(c) Diploma in Post NAC/ NAP Midwifery - 2 years
(d) Certificate in Registered Nurse Assistant Clinicals (RNAC) - 2 years
The college currently runs four (4) programmes i.e. Nurse Assistant Clinical, Post NAC/NAP Midwifery, Registered General Nursing and Registered Midwifery.
The institute operates currently within the broad framework of policies and procedures provided by the Methodist Church Ghana, the Ministry of Health, the Christian Health Association of Ghana, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as affiliated institution.
All the nurses produced by the Institute are duly registered and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana to practice as nurses in various health facilities in Ghana and beyond.
The rolling strategy of Methodist Health Training Institute consists basically of key strategic options and principles designed to help the organization to achieve long-term and short-term goals. Key strategic areas include; resource allocations, operational scale up and implementation as well as help staff to effectively and efficiently plan outcome-based activities.
